The
If you follow the Daily Office Lectionary, we are at the beginning of Year 2. The hanging of the greens this year will take place on Saturday December 17, at 10 am. Normally, we wait until the 4th Sunday in Advent, but scheduling difficulties make it necessary to decorate a day early this year. If you’d like to join us for breakfast, come at 9 am. I hope you'll plan of taking part in this yearly holiday tradition.
Benefit Concert 2011
This Advent, we’re continuing our new tradition of an Afternoon Musical for the benefit of Project Renewal, the shelter in Rockdale County for abused women and men. This year, we’re putting on a Country/Folk/Bluegrass concert featuring Dona Bopp’s band Angel Biscuits, Ernie Gregory and the Skeeters, and the hard-driving bluegrass band East Dixie Boys. The concert begins at 4 pm on Sunday, December 11. There’s no admission charge, but a $10 donation is suggested.
Christmas Services
As usual, there will be two services of worship on Christmas Eve. Again this year the early service will be held at Remington House, in the Chapel. The service begins at 7 pm, with carol singing and Holy Eucharist. The later service, as always, will begin at 10 pm, with carols, and continue with Holy Eucharist at 10:30. There will be one service of Morning Prayer on Christmas Day, beginning at 10 am.
This year, we’re trying something different on New Year’s Eve. There will be a service of Holy Eucharist to welcome in 2012. Worship begins at 11 pm.
An anniversary
Finally, I am marking the start of my ninth year at St. Simon's. I'm amazed at how eight years have flown by, even as I sit and ponder all the changes the years have brought and the people who have come, blessed us, and gone their way. I’m thankful for it all; these have been good years, and I look forward to the future in continued ministry with you.
I pray that your holiday season will be filled with joy and peace, and that the love of God in Christ Jesus will quietly bless you this Advent and Christmas. Daniel +
The Advent of our God
by The Rev. Daniel Crockett
I hope that you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving. Star and I celebrated with family and friends, and had a wonderful time. The only downside was a sorrowful lack of left-over turkey for sandwiches with dressing, cranberries and mayo…the ultimate post-thanksgiving sandwich.
Advent is here
Advent has come around again; we have begun a new Church Year, and will be reading from Cycle B in the Revised Common Lectionary.
