Peter and Debbie Allison, parishioners of St Simon’s, are also the owners of Nosilla Enterprises llc, their Conyers-based trucking company. They spend much of the time criss-crossing the continent in their big purple truck,

Ms Nosilla, but still find time to stay in touch with their home parish.

Happy New Year, St. Simon’s!

Peter and I hope that everyone had a good New Year’s Eve and that 2011 is a happy and prosperous one.

The weeks leading up to Christmas I was so busy planning our route to insure we made it home.  When my kids were little their Dad drove a truck and the one requirement for him was that he was home at Christmas.  So my daughter Sharon was quick to remind me of the rule.  Every time I spoke with her (at least once a day) she would ask "will you be home in time?"  I told her I was doing everything I could to make sure we were.  We cut it close though, we were up in Boston area on the 21st loading for Florida.  I was able to work out a reload from Florida that went to Baltimore area with enough time that we could go by the house for Christmas weekend. Little did we know it was going to snow.   We made it home Christmas Eve and left Sunday after Church.  It worked out well since the snow came on Christmas afternoon.  By the time we left the roads were good.  Turns out we saw more snow in North Carolina than we did in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

It was the third time we chased a snow storm.  On two separate occasions we were heading to Michigan and Wisconsin.  Each time they were getting ready for a major snow storm.  The first time we passed through the leading edge of it while going through Indiana.  Once we passed it we stayed on the back side of it, we went up to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, left there drove across northern Wisconsin then down into Minnesota.   After we left Minnesota we chased the storm east.  The next one we were on our way Milwaukee.  We stated hitting snow in Macon and fought it all the way to middle Kentucky, after that it was great weather.  Each of the trips to Michigan and Wisconsin has us reloading over in Minnesota.  I took some great pictures of Lake Michigan and the Mississippi frozen over.  It was soooo neat!

 Where’s the party?
We were met at the counter by the waitress to tell us that they were CLOSED!   We said "CLOSED! How can you be closed?"  I mean it is New Year’s Eve and it was a bar!!!  She apologized and told us we could get something to eat at the little store.  Needless to say that was not what we were wanting to do.  We were so disappointed we sulked our way back to the truck, had a glass of tea, popped a frozen dinner into the microwave and kept asking each other how could the Tiki Bar be closed!!!!!

After we ate I was asleep by 9.  Peter was too, until something woke him up so he stepped out by the canal and watched some fireworks.  Me I was still asleep, by the time I realized he was outside and I joined him they were over.

The next morning we headed across the street to Everglade Holiday Park where we rented a John Boat and headed out into the Everglades again.  The weather was perfect, a little cool but it was just perfect.  Since it was a little cool we figured we would see more Alligators than we did the last time.  Sure enough we saw plenty of them.  The water level was a little low so the alligators were up on the banks sunning themselves.  We spent about 5 hours just cruising through the Everglades looking for Alligators.

Even though the Tiki Bar was closed for New Years Eve it was the perfect start to the New Year.   And it was a far cry better than where we spent New Years Eve the year prior .   That's what so great about what we do we never know where we are going to end up!

Happy New Year everyone!

New Year’s in Florida

As New Year’s approached we were not sure where we would end up.  We had people telling us that if we were in the area make sure we came to spend the evening with them.  We had offers from all over the country.  Well, turns out we were going to spend New Years Eve at our favorite place.  Seminole Truck Stop, down in Miami.  If everyone remembers, it is the one that is on the canal system down in Miami.  We were so excited, we knew that it would be a happening

Just baskin’: The Florida alligators know how to spend New Year’s Eve

place.   What with the Bikers, the Truckers and

the locals that go there.  Since New Years Eve was a Friday that also meant Jamaica night.  So it was sure to be a good time.    After we delivered to Publix in Deerfield we headed to the truck stop.  It was about 6:30 or so Peter finished his paperwork, we went and paid for parking then headed to the Tiki Bar.
